NEWS from Room 156

Dear Parents,
Thank you to all of you who were able to attend our curriculum night on Thursday evening. If you were unable to make it the grade two curriculum is posted on the TDSB web site.
We have continued with our data management in math this week and will be finishing up next week. This unit will be followed up with a focus on number facts to 20. It is always helpful if you can practise these at home for a few minutes each night to help with consolidation. We will start with "doubles" (one plus one, two plus two, etc.) I will be giving quick one minute drills each morning to help the children memorize the facts.
In language we will start our guided reading groups this week. We will continue to learn about Proper Nouns and then move on to verbs. I am reading a wonderful book to the children entitled Edward Tulane. It's about a little china rabbit and the children are loving it. Two authors you might want to look at are Roald Dahl and Michael Morpurgo, both terrific children's writers. I find that if you can interest your child in a particular author, it encourages them to want to read and be read to.
In social studies I will be sending a list home this week of the dates for Special Person of the Week presentations. If the date that you have been given does not work for you, please try and change with another child in the class and then let me know.
Have great weekend. The weather has fortunately been beautiful!
