Auction for Autism

Dear Parents, I have a daughter Elizabeth Watt, who teaches for the TDSB. Last year she had a fundraiser for Autism and raised $5000.00 for the Gneva Centre. I have enclosed her letter so that you could read it and if any of you would like to contribute to this very worthwhile cause it would be greatly appreciated. To whom it may concern, I am a teacher with the Toronto District School Board and am in the midst of planning an event to help raise money for Autism. I am writing to you in hope for some support for this cause. In May, I am having an Auction for Autism and am hoping to raise funds for an organization called KidsCan which is a non profit independent school that provides social and academic learning opportunities for children with Autism. At KidsCan, they offer a unique curriculum and various after school programs that take an eclectic approach to intervention. The KidsCan approach encompasses the whole child and addresses essential areas for healthy development; teaching skills that generalize beyond the classroom and into the social world. The centre is developed to serve the growing need for programs that emphasize communication and peer interaction in a natural environment. KidsCan is currently in need of funds to build their after school social skills program for children aged 4-12. They hope to research and develop new ways to provide Autistic children with socialization strategies to help them integrate into mainstream society more easily. For two years, I taught and worked closely with an unbelievable autistic girl who has inspired me in so many ways to organize this event. With help from KidsCan, she has come so far and excelled in many areas due to the social programs she has taken part in. I am writing you today to ask if you are interested in donating anything at all for this auction so that I can try and raise as much money as possible for this amazing cause. Thank you in advance for your time and support, Liz Watt watt_liz@hotmail.com
