Dear Parents,
Next week we will have our first skating day on Wednesday, Feb.2nd. Please ensure that your child is dressed warmly, as we will be on the rink for an hour. Regulation helmets are mandatory.
This week in science we looked at the lever and pulley. Next week we will be learning about the wheel and axel. This unit will be followed by a quiz.
In math we are continuing to learn about 2 D shapes and symmetry and we will start our unit on money mid week.
We have now been at school for 90 days!! The one hundreth day of school is on Feb.11th. I would like the children to bring in a collection of 100 things. This can be done on a piece of bristol board or loose. We are going to look at all the different ways we can count to 100. The children are all are keen to do this even though they all know how to count to 100 in different ways!!
During our work day the children are given ample amounts of time to complete their various tasks. I am noticing a number of them are coming to me saying they are finished when their work isn't complete or proofread. Too many times, they are not reading the instructions carefully and following through
on their work. Lack of punctuation, capitalization, sentence structure, spelling and untidy work are all too common. As a result your child may come home with corrections to make or incomplete work. I am constantly reminding them of their responsibilty in this.
I would really appreciate your support in this area when they bring their work home.
The Presentations of the Week have been going very well. I would like to remind you that cue cards are very helpful for your child to present with. It enables them to look at their peers and speak up. The displays have been terrific and very creative, but often the children end up reading into the display or just pointing to their pictures and reading the annotation beneath them. I am grading them according to different aspects of the presentation. Creativity, voice modulation, eye contact, how they answer the questions asked, and their knowledeg of their family traditions and heritage will all come into the final mark. (For example, they may receive an A for creativity and a C for eye contact.)
Reading Groups are also going well. Sometimes your child may bring homework home on that day because I do give them extra work as follow up to the story they have read. We alsways do it together as a group.
Thank you again for your continued help and support.
Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Seitz
