Happy New Year and Welcome Back!

Dear Parents,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a happy and restful holiday. It always goes so quickly, as we try to get together with friends and family.
I would like to thank everyone again for the gift certificate to Apple. I am really looking forward to purchasing a new laptop sometime soon.
We have hit the ground running in Room 156! In Language Arts we are continuing to learn about the parts of speech. Last week we learned about when to use "a" and "an" in front of a noun, and this week we will be learning about pronouns, and how to substitute them for a noun. As well, we are focusing on our reading groups more this term. We started last week and will be meeting several times a week. Thank you to the Moms who are able to assist in this part of our programme.
In Science we are continuing to learn about simple machines, how they work and how they make our life easier.
In Social Studies we have just started to learn about mapping skills. We will also be using these skills in relation to learning about Canada. We will continue with our unit on special celebrations and traditions.
In Math we are learning about time...the hour, the half hour, and the quarter hour.
Important dates ahead are as follows:
January 14th- Pizza Day
January 21st- P.A. Day
Reports will be going home in mid February and interviews will be held for parents of students who are experiencing difficulty.
Now that we actually have some snow, I would encourage you to make sure your child has a pair of shoes that they can leave at school. Last week a number of children were in their stocking feet in the classroom.
Have a great week and thank you for your continued support.
