Happy Family Day

I hope everyone had a great weekend and a Happy Family Day. It was nice to have a little break in the middle of the winter!
Last week was very busy with Valentine's Day, Scientist in the School and skating!! I would like to thank all the parent volunteers who sent in Valentine treats for our party. The children had a wonderful time opening their cards and eating their special treats.
A very special thank you to Julia Fuller, Jenn Abbott, Nicole Townsend and Wendy Mitchell for giving up their time to come in and help with the Scientist. It was an excellent morning and a good start to our science unit on Air and Water.
We were very fortunate with the weather on Wednesday for skating. It was very mild and we all enjoyed the time on the rink. Thank you to the parents who came out to help with the tieing up of skates!!(a horrible job!!) It amazes me when I see how well the children are doing with their skating. What a change from Kindergarten!!! Thank you to Jane Taylor for providing delicious hot chocolate from Starbuck's..we are spoiled!
This week we will be finishing up our media unit with our cereal boxes. The children have drawn up plans for their cereal and now they will implement them with their reading buddies.
Our reading groups are coming along well and I will be introducing a fairy tale unit to the children after March Break. We are looking at stories and how they are created with a setting, characters, a beginning, middle and end. I would like the children to create their own fairy tale and then have them published. This will take a lot of time in the next term as we work away on this unit.
In math we are continuing with the unit on time, which will be followed by measurement (perimeter and area).
In social studies we are continuing with our work on mapping skills. We are also learning about Canada and the different continents in relationship to the Earth. If anyone has a video on Earth that we could watch, I would appreciate it if we could borrow it for a few days.
Thank you all for your continued support.

Mrs. Seitz
