Dear Parents,

We had our first spelling test yesterday and the children were very successful. Please help your child study the words each night. The instructions for studying were posted last week. I am going to be testing the children on the five bonus words each week. Their test scores are out of 10 plus they get marks for the bonus words they are able to spell. The spelling test will come home each Friday, so that you can see how your child is doing.

In math we have been learning about graphing and how to interpret the data we collect from looking at a graph. You will notice that your child has brought home their math book with homework on graphing. There will be a short test on graphing on Tuesday next week. Please help your child to study graphing by going over the graphs we have done over the last few weeks. The math folders must be returned on Monday and I will send them home again on Monday night to be returned on Tuesday for the test.

Your child should know:
1. read the graph and answer questions based on the graph
2. make a bar graph, picto-graph (pictures), and a line plot
3. label graph with appropriate title
4. label horizontal axis with appropriate title and heading
5. label vertical axis with the appropriate title and numbers
Please use the terms vertical axis and horizontal axis with your child as these are terms that we have learned at school.
