This is an addendum to my post from the weekend. There were a few more things that I wanted to mention and forgot! The Grade 2 long range plans are posted on the LKS website under the Curriculum heading. You can either view or print it for your records. The Curriculum documents for all grades can be found on the Ministry of Education website.

I would like to mention that when the children are drawing I use the ABCD prompt. A is for including Action in your picture. B is for Background, for example, drawing trees, or a sun or clouds in their picture to add context. C is for colour, making sure that their picture is colourful and using appropriate colours for objects they are drawing. For example an apple is usually red, green or yellow, not black. D is for adding detail, such as eyes, a nose and a mouth, body parts, hair etc. when drawing a person. Please encourage your child to do the same when they are doing their homework. We continue to practice printing each day. Please practice printing with your child at home. (I have some printing paper if you would like your child to practice). I expect the students to always write as neatly as they can. By this I mean, forming their letters properly and using spaces between words. I understand that this takes time but I feel it is a very important expectation, especially at this young age as it teaches the students good work habits. Students need to be able to write neatly and clearly so that not only can I read what they've written but so can they! It is common for some children to write using a combination of upper and lower case letters but I encourage them to only use capitals for the word I, for the name of a person or place or when starting a sentence. Please encourage your child to do the same. When completing the Interview assignment, I expect full sentences with capitals and periods. I received a few back today that were not completed properly, so I will send them home to be corrected. It is important to sit with your child to help them with their assignment. We will use this interview in Social Studies as it directly relates to the Student of the Week project. Please help your child to find an older relative who they can interview.

Spelling will begin sometime after the Thanksgiving weekend. Please look for your child's spelling list in their agenda. Spelling tests will be on Monday mornings. Borrow A Book will be begin after Thanksgiving as well. Students will bring home a book every Friday. Unless it is a chapter book, books must be returned the following Monday. As a side note, if you have any used Chapter books at home please think about donating them to our class. I am in need of simple chapter books such as Arthur, Bailey School kids, Magic Schoolbus, Judy Moody. I would also appreciate any books by Roald Dahl as well any classics such as Robin Hood, Alice in Wonderland etc. The children are really enjoying the books I am reading from the author Roald Dahl. If you have any suggestions of other authors or books that you have read at home that your children really enjoy, please let me know.
Your child's homework is to Read 20 minutes every night. From time to time, your child may have homework. This homework is mainly to finish what hasn't been completed in class time. Please read and sign your child's agenda each night, as it lists their homework. Thank you to all of you who have ordered from Scholastic. I sent the order in to Josette today so we should have the books within the next ten days.

Thank you again for your support.
