News

Last week was another busy week in grade two. We are continuing to review and learn about sentence structure using a capital at the beginning and a period at the end. We have also started learning about simple nouns and proper nouns. I am trying to instill in the children that they must proofread all their work before handing it in through the use of the special person's story. We learned what a list is for and how to make a list. This idea came from the story we read in groups about "The List" from one of the Frog and Toad stories. We discussed quotation marks as well, because there is alot of talking in "Frog and Toad". We will need to work on this more as it will take time for the children to understand how to incorporate this into their own writing. In math we are working on skip counting by 2's using a hundreth chart with manipulatives and also follow up seatwork. We will continue with skip counting next week using 5's,10's and 25's. We are continuing to work on ordinal numbers (ie., first, second, third, fourth, etc. to 100), which we learned about last week. In social studies we are learning about different celebrations and customs from around the world. The interview sheet that I sent home must be completed and handed in by Oct.14th. Please sit with your child and encourage them to print neatly and in sentences. This home support helps your child and me tremendously at school. This week coming up, we will be talking about individual differences in all races, and learning that everyone has the same feelings and emotions inside. We will be studying a poem written by Mem Fox on the similarities and differences of everyone. We will also be starting our first science unit this week on Liquids and Solids.
The Terry Fox run is on Thursday, Sept.30th and we will need volunteers to help. Please join us if you are able.
