Happy New Year!

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year and welcome back! I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weekend. It's cold but the sunshine certainly lifts your spirits.

We had a busy first week back and it all began with Ewan MacKay's birthday and ended with mine!! Also, Happy Birthday to Cuan Doig (Jan. 3rd) and Mateo Valdes-Collette (Jan. 14 th). LKS had their annual Spelling Bee on Wednesday and the whole school watched. It was good for the children to watch and try to spell some of the words in their head!
In Language we are carrying on with novel studies and anthologies and I have introduced Famous Artists to some of the children for their reading assignments.
We are also learning about contractions and will be focusing on synonyms and antonyms this week as well.
In Math we are finishing up our unit on Time and I will be giving the children a test on this on Thursday. We will be starting a new unit on Measurement by the end of the week.
In Science we are now working on the unit of Simple Machines. On Jan. 25 th Scientist in the School will be coming in to do an afternoon lesson on this unit.
In Social Studies we have started a unit on mapping skills and world connections focusing on Canada. The following website is great for the children to familiarize themselves with world connections:
http://pbskids.org/arthur/games/connectworld/connectworld.html Have fun learning about the various flags, sports, music, foods and more from all around the world.

I would like to thank all the parents who volunteered on Thursday to drive the children to the Mastercard Centre. We all had a great afternoon!

Thank you again for your continued support.
