The first week of school went smoothly. It was lovely to meet all the students and we have a wonderful group of children. The students are slowly getting into the swing of things and are learning their new schedule and routine. Thank you for coming to the Open House on Friday morning. It was great to meet all of you. If you did not have a chance to make it, please feel free to drop in after school to introduce yourself. Our Grade parents this year are Susan O'Reilly (Mary's mom) and Jane Taylor (Claire's mom). Thank you ladies for volunteering your time! A letter was sent out in your child's Friday folder. It is a consent form to share your contact information with the other parents in our class. Jane and Susan will be putting a Class Contact list together and will be sending it out to parents. Please fill out the form and return it to school as soon as possible. I will be meeting with Jane and Susan this week to decide on what our class will need in the way of parent volunteers. There will be several opportunities for you to volunteer in the classroom throughout the year and Jane and Susan will be arranging this for me. Thank you to Josette Grech (Ryan's mom) for taking on the onerous job of Scholastic!! At this moment, I am looking for 1 parent who will come in every Friday to fill the Friday Folders. As well, the Terry Fox Walk is scheduled for September 30th and we need lots of volunteers. If you are interested in helping out with any of these things, please contact Jane at bonfire98@rogers.com or Susan at peaktime@rogers.com. I have collected most of the forms that were sent out last week, however, there are still a few forms missing. If you need another copy of the forms, you can print it off from the LKS website or you can get another one from the office.
There have been a few questions regarding homework. Reading for 20 minutes is your child's homework each night. In October we will start the Borrow-A-book program (a.k.a. Snuggle Up Book). Once a week, on Fridays, each child will select a book and bring it home to read independently or with a parent. Until this program gets started your child can read their library books or books from home. At times, if they have not finished work in class, they may have to bring it home to complete it. Please make sure to send your child's homework back to school the next day.
Please make sure to read my September newsletter so that you are familiar with the Grade 2 expectations for this year. It's very lengthy but it has important information that will answer many of the questions you may have. If you have any further questions, please send a note in your child's agenda or contact me at the school and we can arrange a meeting.
Thanks very much and have a wonderful week!
